One thing that has always mesmerized me about Atla

One thing that has always mesmerized me about Atlanta is how, even with its sprawling metropolitan area and concrete jungles (clusters of skyscrapers) across different districts, patches of dense forest, bulging rocks, and undeveloped land appears untouched. If you are standing in or if you only directed your eyes towards one of these green spaces, you could easily forget you’re in the heart of a vast city. It’s one of the few things I miss about living there.

After spending the last month and a half traveling

After spending the last month and a half traveling through Colorado and Utah, I’m back in the East Coast — at least for now. I spent most of the time with my mom and got to visit my brother. It was quiet—by design. I’ve been keeping to myself, not just in life but on here too. I am often too frightened to post or share anything here.

Even when I think I’m calm, my body doesn’t seem to get the message—it stays stuck in panic mode.

Anxiety has crept in so deeply that it has been affecting my physical health. A sharp increase in episodes involving shortness of breath has resulted in visiting medical specialists, taken pulmonary tests, wore a heart monitor, and trying an inhaler. Nothing has provided clear answers yet. The only thing that seems certain is that my body is reacting to stress and anxiety in ways I can’t always control. It has literally affected my breathing and my ability to accomplish things.

This is why I’ve been quiet. It’s why I’ve distanced myself, even when I didn’t want to. Interacting—online, in person, all of it—has started to take a toll that I never expected. The energy I absorb from scrolling social media feeds has only added to it. It’s exhausting.

it’s easy to feel like we have to be constantly connected, to post, to stay visible, or to keep up with everything.

I know not everyone can just step away, but if you ever find yourself feeling worse because of what you’re seeing online—if it’s intensifying your anger or stress, or making you feel like shit—remember it’s OK to take a break. Seriously. Close the apps or delete them off your phone. You don’t need permission to disconnect when it becomes too much. You don’t actually need to engage or respond, even if it really feels like you do.

Protecting your mental health is valid and necessary, whether it’s a short pause or a longer one. Unplugging can be one of the most effective ways to help yourself.

A few days ago, I learned that Kiki, one of my pet

A few days ago, I learned that Kiki, one of my pet sitting “regulars”, had crossed the rainbow bridge. Her passing was not a surprise; at nearly 18 years old, she had lived a long and full life.

I last watched Kiki about a month ago, knowing it would likely be our final time together. Taking care of her additional needs was reflective of hospice care, requiring an extra measure of compassion, patience, and attentiveness. Those who have cared for an aging pet know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s difficult to witness, but it’s part of the territory.

Being Kiki’s pet sitter during her final couple of years was a true honor. She was a sweetheart, and I will always hold her memory dear. The trust her family placed in me was humbling, and I am grateful for the opportunity to spend time with her, even if just a small part of it. 🐾
